About the Project
DANTE is a cross-border Interreg Slovenia–Italy project aimed at developing literary tourism based on the cultural heritage of Dante Alighieri. It was created through the collaboration of project partners, experts, local communities, and cultural institutions from Slovenia and Italy.
Within the project, five literary parks have been created, connected by a shared literary route across the cross-border area:
- Izola (Paradise) – Memory and manuscript
- Trieste – Duino (Purgatory) – Exile and sublime landscapes
- Ceggia – Oriago – Venice – Carnival and community
- Udine – Moimacco – Tolmezzo – Justice and governance
- Tolmin (Inferno) – Descent and depths
Each park opens the door to a distinct world of Dante's poetics, while weaving together local natural and cultural features. Through storytelling, interactive interpretation, and digital tools, visitors are invited to step into the story — not merely as observers, but as participants in the narrative.
The project is grounded in extensive research shedding light on Dante's presence in the northern Adriatic region — from historical sources and legends to material evidence, such as the two Izola codices of the Divine Comedy. The goal is to create a sustainable, slow, and culturally rich tourism experience that connects literary heritage, nature, and communities across national borders.
